Money is not an issue, I just want the best package. So here I am stuck not knowing what to buy. Smallest size, same front camera quality (if 1440p with 60hz)Īnd the rear camera is not that necessary or whether its 1080 or 1440p doesnt make a big difference after watching dozens of youtube videos. Then again, why not just taking the A119 duo?! The A229 looks freakishly large and I cannot imagine having such a beast hanging in my windshield. Is it an issue not to have display at all?

While some threads summarize, that the A229 is the all around best dashcam, other threads state that you have to go for A139 pro due to Starvis 2 Sensor. I prefer not to have a freaking huge camera stuck in my windshield when driving a small car like a Golf 8 Obviously I want a good picture, 1440p in 60frames is a must. Since its a lease-car all the installation has to be easily removable when I return my car without any indication, that a dashcam has ever be installed.

The $249.99 VIOFO A129 Pro Duo kit contains everything you need for basic dashcam functionality. Night view shows the capability of the Sony Exmor R 8MP Sensor. I have included front camera video captures below, one taken directly from the VIOFO mobile app (after connecting my iPhone to the camera’s Wi-Fi network) the second is grabbed directly from the memory card using my computer. It’s worth noting that in addition to options like resolution, you can adjust exposure levels for both front and back. I brought the camera back inside and tested taking some shots under normal conditions and the results were both crisp and color-correct. This was also tested in Canadian winter, which means grime and road salt everywhere (including windshields), and dimmer daylight sun.

The limitations of my setup meant the camera was placed on a wide tinted strip on the windshield to protect from sun. Video captured by the 4K camera in daylight was crisp, but in my setup it was blue-tinted. Installing the back camera would be a similar process, except you would need to turn on screen mirroring on the front camera to get the view from the rear camera while positioning it. Once installed, you can slip the camera out of the mounting base if needed. The included 3M adhesive patches do a solid job of holding the camera in place - I installed it in below freezing temperatures and there were no issues.

From there the camera tilt can be adjusted up or down as needed. I plugged it in and powered it up first so I could ensure it was level horizontally.

Physically positioning the front camera on the windshield was made easy with the camera’s integrated display. Connected to USB power and ready to record.
